spread picks

January 2, 2009

Hello again my friends and welcome back, so today i like to start by talking about how much money i believe Las Vegas has been losing on these bowls games. If you do some research you will find that most of the time whatever the public was on ended up covering the spread. I mean your average joe public who knows nothing about sports but bets on a team solely because everyone else is doing it or because they have heard the team was good. And to top it off they don't even bother to do any analyzing what so ever and they still win is beyond me. These are the kind of bettors that have helped build those beautiful hotels and casino's you all have seen in Las Vegas, by continually betting with the public and continually losing their money. But all of a sudden since the bowl season started last week it seems that joe public has become either extremely lucky or just plain psychic. I believe there is an ulterior motive behind this, because a few of my friends who i consider very reliable have told me that the sharps had been getting the best of Vegas in the month of December from betting on Hockey, pro and college basketball and the NFL. Now all of a sudden we see "Joe Public" go on a bowl game ATS winning streak, in my opinion its costing Vegas money(like they don't have other revenue streams) but most importantly those sharp bettors that were making a killing in December are now being shredded to pieces with the start of the bowl season. I don't see this trend continuing because sooner or later the evil hand of Vegas will come calling for the public's money, and i hope i'm on the moneyline big for the other side. I do want to send out a congratulations to both the USC Trojans and the Georgia Bulldogs for a successful season and a well played game, you deserve it guys. Alrighty my friends as always i will be back in a little while with my first pick of the day, so good luck today and take care.

NCAAF
The Cotton Bowl
2:00 pm(est)
Mississippi(+6) at Texas Tech(-6)

Texas Tech has been an offensive juggernaut this year led by their start Qaurterback Graham Harrell who has put up 41 TD's and only 7 picks. They have an elite core of wide receivers led by Michael Crabtree who is nursing a bad ankle but will probably play. On paper it looks like a one sided matchup but don't be fooled, the Mississippi Rebels can play defense. They allow an average of about 17.8 points a game versus the Red Raiders 26.2 avg. The Rebels offensively avg 30.8 points per game overall and have impressive numbers against the spread this year. Mississippi is 8-3 ATS overall and 4-1 ATS on the road, and to top it off they are 4-1 ATS on grass which is what they will be playing on today. With the public all over Texas Tech and the line dropping from (-7) to (-6) i think this is a good spot for the Rebels to cover this game.

Betting on: Mississippi(+6)(-110)

Final Score:
Mississippi 47 (win)
Texas Tech 34

NHL
7:05 pm(est)
Montreal(+110) at New jersey(-130)

The Montreal Canadiens have been a on fire lately winning 5 of their last 6 and 3 in a row on the road. The Canadiens have a bit of a score to settle with the Devils for an earlier defeat they suffered back on December 6th in Montreal. The Devils have struggled lately and at times their offense seems to fall asleep, they have average around 2 goals a game in their last 5 contest versus Montreals 3 goals a game avg in the same time peroid. Couple all this with the fact that Vegas has set the line so low for the visitors(+110), it seems clear to me that they are thinking the same thing.

Betting on: Montreal(+110)

Final Score:
Montreal 1 (lost)
New Jersey 4

NBA
10:05 pm(est)
New Orleans(-1.5) at Portland(+1.5)

Sorry about the late post but i was waiting to see if All-Star Brandon Roy was playing tonight, and it has been confirmed to me that he is out, so im all over the Hornets who are a much healthier team tonight.

Betting on: New Orleans(-1.5)(-110)

Final Score:
New Orleans 92 (win)
Portland 77
