Spread Picks March 5, 2009

NBA
8:05 pm(est)
Dallas(+6.5) at New Orleans(-6.5)

The New Orleans Hornets have been on fire lately, winning 7 of their last 10 games and have an impressive 5 game winning streak to go along with it. The problem i see with this Hornets team is the ability to cover the spread, they are 3-7 ATS in this 10 game stretch. New Orleans has really struggled to put the game away late by allowing bad teams to hang around in the 4th quarter. But on the other hand the Dallas Mavericks have still not convinced me that they are a legit team. Even with a much needed win last night against the Spurs they still have problems on the road against good teams. Like i mentioned yesterday i believe that the Mavs feast on bad teams and get throttled when they play the better teams in the league(excluding last night's motivational must win game). Six points is a lot to give up for a team like the Hornets who have struggled with the spread the last few weeks, but i still cant bring myself to lay any money on the Mavs, maybe its all the horrific flash backs of their Jekyll and Hyde performances over the course of the year that has me convinced to ride the Hornets(i will update again a half hour before the start of the second game of this TNT Thursday night double header).

Betting On: New Orleans(-6.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Dallas 88
New Orleans 104(win)(+5.00 units)

NBA
10:35 pm(est)
Portland(+7.5) at Denver(-7.5)

Carmello Anthony will return to the line up tonight after serving a one game suspension on Tuesday, a game that the Nuggets lost to the Detroit Piston's. I look for the Nuggets to pull one out against a Trailblazer team who played last night and had to fly from Portland to the mile high city without a days rest to recover. Portland has not fared well in Denver, they have a 1-6 record in their last 7 trips and are 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 meetings.

Betting On: Denver(-7.5)(-110)(2.20 units)

Final Score:
Portland 90
Denver 106(win)(+2.00 units)
