MLB Opening Day April 6, 2009

MLB
2:05 pm(est)
Tampa Bay(+135) at Boston(-143)

Welcome back everyone, this is my favorite time of year when the boys of summer get back into the swing of things. Well for my first play of the year i focus my attention to the rematch of last years American League Championship series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox. I'm riding the home team in this game, but i am very concerned about starting pitcher Josh Beckett's health(word is still out on how effective he will actually be). I believe even if he struggles the Red Sox should have enough offense to carry the team over the Rays at Fenway. Tampa's starter James Shields has not had the greatest of luck in Boston the last few years and I also believe that the Rays will actually take a step back this year. I have noticed alot of teams who are in the world series the previous year usually struggle or get off to slow starts the next year, but there have been exceptions to this theory In the past. I just don't see Tampa Bay sneaking up on anyone this year, as a matter of fact i believe they have a huge bulls eye on their chests because they are the American League Champs after all and everyone will be gunning for them. Red Sox get it done with their offense, and get some revenge on the Rays for eliminating them from post season last October.

Betting On: Boston Moneyline(-143)

Final Score:
Postponed(due to weather)

MLB
7:05 pm(est)
Detroit(+140) at Toronto(-148)

I will back Roy Halladay anytime he pitches, especially at home where he has been dominant in recent years. Their is a concern that the Jays offense will be weak along with the rest of the rotation, but i believe new coach Cito Gaston will find a way to get the bats going this year in Toronto. The Tigers send Justin Verlander to the mound and i just don't know if he will regain the command he had a couple of years ago. I seem to remember him struggling with walks and that hurt him in alot of his starts last year. If he starts walking the Jays hitters look for Toronto to take advantage and jump all over Verlander within the first few innings. The key here is for the Jays to give Halladay a nice 3 or 4 run cushion and+125) he usually takes care of the rest of the game. I have alot of respect for the Tigers lineup, but Roy Halladay has a funny way of making even the best lineups in the league look bad.

Betting On: Toronto Moneyline(-148)

Final Score:
Detroit 5
Toronto 12 (win)(+1.00 units)

MLB
9:05 pm(est)
Oakland(+125) at L.A. Angels(-133)

For some reason the line went down for this game, it opened at (-152) and now is down to (-133) for the home team. This is probably a good indication that the A's have a shot to win this game, especially with the Angels bullpen not being as good as in years past. Tonight I will bank on the A's with their revamped offense, i think they will do some damage against Angels starter Joe Saunders tonight. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that these teams are in the same division, so they know alot about each other, with that being said i believe the A's have the upper hand with their lineup and should get it done even without the pitching we are used to seeing from them in the past.

Betting On: Oakland Moneyline(+125)

Final Score:
Oakland 0 (lost)(-1.00 units)
L.A. Angels 3
